Wiregrass Daily News spoke with Principal Marie Thompson this morning about an exciting upcoming event! “Fire Stone High School” is taking a nostalgic trip back in time as it gears up for a prom night experience that blends 1980’s flair with a thrilling twist. The event, set for 6:00 p.m. on April 25, will be hosted at Fire Stone Wood Fired Grill, located at 250 South Oates Street. Attendees are encouraged to come dressed in their finest 80’s formal wear — think ruffles, bold colors, big hair, and vintage vibes. A number of local vendors will be in attendance, offering boutonnieres, sweet treats, and specialty brews. Entertainment for the evening will include a live DJ spinning classic 80’s hits, setting the perfect backdrop for dancing and nostalgia. Adding an unexpected element to the night is a murder mystery experience, "Murder at Prom”. With music, fashion, and mystery, “Fire Stone High School’s” 1985 Prom Night promises to be a memorable evening for all who attend. SEACT Brings True Alabama Story to Life on Stage

Dothan, Al. (WDNews) – Wiregrass Daily News had the pleasure of speaking with Jennifer Doherty, Executive Director of SEACT, and Kendall Sirkis, Director of the upcoming SEACT theatre production Alabama Story. The production, based on true events that unfolded in 1950s Alabama, is set to premiere on Thursday, April 24 at 7:00 p.m., with additional performances on Friday, April 25 at 7:00 p.m. and a matinee on Saturday, April 26 at 2:00 p.m.
Directed by Sirkis and produced under the leadership of Doherty, Alabama Story follows the story of a state librarian who becomes the center of a political and social controversy, and delves into themes of censorship, civil rights, and intellectual freedom, offering audiences a compelling mix of drama, poignancy, and humor.
With a cast of seven local performers, the production aims to connect with the community by shedding light on a pivotal moment in Alabama’s history.
Community members are encouraged to attend and support local theatre while exploring an important chapter in the state’s cultural and civil rights legacy.
