Wiregrass Daily News spoke with Travis Parker, founder of Wiregrass Honor Flight, about the upcoming Sweat4Vets Ruck March, a community event aimed at honoring veterans and raising funds to send them to Washington D.C.
Taking place on Saturday, May 17, at the Church on Boll Weevil Circle (2017 Boll Weevil Circle, Enterprise), the event offers two ruck options: a 5K and an 11-mile “Ruck the Circle” challenge.
Both begin at 7:30 a.m., with registration starting at 7:00 a.m. Participants will carry weighted ruck sacks—25 lbs for women and 35 lbs for men. The event has a $25 entry fee, with all proceeds funding trips for World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War veterans to visit their memorials in Washington D.C.
The event also features food trucks, vendor tents, and a rock climbing wall provided by the National Guard.
Participants are encouraged to bring a flag and fill their rucks with items to donate to SOS Animal Shelter. All are welcome to ruck or walk in support of this meaningful cause.

Several local chefs will be facing off to win the judges' awards as well as the People’s Choice Award, cooking with ingredients sourced directly from the Farmer's Market. Opening ceremonies for the event will begin at 8:30 a.m. The chefs will be released to begin gathering their ingredients at 9:00 a.m. and will have until 11:00 a.m. to finish preparing their dishes. Judging and voting will begin immediately after, and winners will be announced at 11:30 a.m. While this is an annual event, the Farmer’s Market is open year-round on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, offering a variety of fresh and local goods—from fruits and vegetables to baked goods.
