After undergoing extensive renovations, the Dothan Opera House is set to reopen with a full calendar of weekend performances scheduled throughout the summer. The reopening marks a significant milestone for the city’s cultural landscape, with events ranging from concerts to comedy planned at the downtown venue. The first performance, which has already sold out, will lead into a summer-long series of entertainment offerings. Among the highlights is The Circle Sessions, a singer-songwriter competition scheduled for July 19. The event will showcase local and regional talent on the Opera House stage. As part of its expanded programming, a new Park Series is also being introduced. This initiative will feature live performances at various parks throughout the city, aiming to increase community access to the arts. The series will begin on June 19 at Solomon Park with a performance by The Burney Sisters. Events in the Park Series will continue at different locations across Dothan throughout the year, further integrating performing arts into everyday community spaces. With a renovated venue and new outreach efforts, the city is preparing for a vibrant season of arts and entertainment designed to engage residents and visitors alike. Applications to compete in The Circle Sessions are still open through April 30 and can be submitted at dothanoperahouse.com, where the full summer schedule and ticket information are also available.

Wiregrass Daily News had the pleasure of chatting with Jenny Williams, a board member of the Chrysalis, A Home for Girls, about an inspiring upcoming event that blends community fun with a powerful mission.
This Sunday, Chrysalis will host a Butterfly Release at Landmark Park from 2 to 4 p.m. Families and community members are invited to take part in this heartwarming afternoon filled with activities and meaning.
Near the park’s playground, children can enjoy a variety of engaging activities including face painting, giant bubbles, and arts and crafts.
At 3:30 p.m., the butterflies—having been kept safely and gently at rest—will be passed around and released all at once in a breathtaking moment of unity and symbolism.
Chrysalis, A Home for Girls provides a wide range of support services for girls and young women. These include moderate foster care, 24/7 supervision, counseling, therapy, life skills coaching, tutoring, and transportation to and from jobs, helping young women transition to a more independent lifestyle.
Sunday’s butterfly release offers a unique opportunity for the Wiregrass community to enjoy a meaningful afternoon while supporting an organization dedicated to empowering young lives.
